Adapters and Plugs for Your Upcoming Overseas Vacation
These are the power socket types around the world.

Now, every plug as 2 or 3 prongs (some have 4).
In Italy, like the US, there is one socket for two-prong plugs (which have no ground).
The two prong plugs are like cell phone chargers – most electronic device chargers accept both 110VAC or 230VAC.
Some devices have three prongs, and one of these is used for grounding.
In Italy they have one for three prongs, just like in the US.
If you have a grounded plug (every 3-prong plug), you should get the adapter for 3-prongs.
If all your devices have two prongs, there is no point to the 3rd prong plug.
This helps where power is not stable and where grounding is needed for safety in using the device.
You see this with many laptop chargers.
Also helps in high electrical noise environments.
These are examples of the types of converters or adapters you can use when traveling international.
