Land and Sea Travel team had an adventure in Texas while we were training in Irving, Texas a suburb of Dallas with our host agency Nexion. We stayed at the Marriott Springhill Suites about 4 minutes away from our “Boot Camp” training. This accommodations offered more space for the three of us.
We were in training from 9 to 5 but we made the most of it in the evening! We had rented a car and explored the area. We had our travel report that we offer to our clients before their trips with suggestions and the do and don’ts with unbiased reviews.
So the first night we decided to head to Dallas and see The Reunion Tower with the best view of downtown Dallas. This tower revolves around offering specular views below. There are two levels to view; one level is inside where dining or drinks are provided; this night they had trivia. The other level is outside the tower with telescopes to see a closer view.
Travel Report Review of Reunion Tower:
Views of the flashy downtown skyline from Reunion Tower; The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza; the hip Victory Park, home to the American Airlines Center and the W Hotel; the white steel Margaret Hunt Hill suspension bridge; Fair Park with the country's largest collection of art-deco architecture; the Bishop Arts District in Oak Cliff, a Bohemian shopping and dining mecca in a historic neighborhood. The restaurant was not open so we drove down the street to the Owner’s Box to have dinner. We saw on the travel report that the best time to get the best view was at 7:30 pm so we took our time eating and headed back. Enjoyed the view on the outside and inside with history and interactive info to see along with the view. The tower lights up different colors among the Dallas skyline with other buildings in bright colors.
The following night we went to Fort Worth, about a 20 minute drive from Irving. It was totally worth the drive. One of the travel advisors seated near us in training who was from Texas mentioned visiting the Stockyards and eating at the Cattleman’s Restaurant located at the Fort Worth Stockyards. The food was great along with the atmosphere. Right around the corner, it was like walking right on the set of a western movie. There were so many shops with the Stockyard hotel and a live rodeo. Even saw a man jump on a cow and ride it down the street! Check out the pictures and video. Of course, we did some shopping too.
Travel Report Review:
Stockyards National Historic District
This historic area encompasses 125 acres/50 hectares of cattle pens and refurbished buildings once used during Fort Worth's cattle-boom era. Much of the original complex remains, and you'll still occasionally see horses tied to the hitching posts that line Exchange Avenue. You'll also catch glimpses of the Fort Worth Police Department's Mounted Patrol and, on weekends, a live longhorn steer that poses for photos. The 10-block district is crammed with galleries, restaurants, saloons and western shops. The Texas Cowboy Hall of Fame showcases history's top cowboys and cowgirls. Visitors can also get a taste of the past when a herd of legendary longhorns—descendants of cattle Christopher Columbus brought over from Spain—is driven through each day at 11:30 am and 4 pm, weather permitting. Horseback and carriage rides are available. Travel-42
Our last night we decided to take an adventure to Waco, Texas to see the Magnolia Gardens. I love my Magnolia dining table and Chip and Joanne Gaines Home improvement show and always wanted to visit this area. It was worth driving the 1 ½ hour drive to this wonderful location.
“Each one of our six shops has been curated by Jo with a specific style and theme in mind—ranging from bath + body, men’s provisions, bags + jewelry, women’s clothing, books + paper, and kids + baby. While the Market will continue to host our more robust home decor and kitchen selection, the Shops at the Silos offer a more intimate shopping experience and product selection”. www.Magnolia.com
The focal point is the old church located in the center with the silos in the background. This church was constructed using elements preserved from an abandoned church across town. There is beautiful landscaping throughout the property with a Magnolia Seed & Supply and a garden to visit. Of course, there is the Magnolia Homes to see their furniture too.
Since it was night when we arrive, the shops and food trucks were not available. Yes, that means we did not get to sample the cupcakes…however there was the Under Summer Skies music concert with the band Infinity Song performing a live concert that night. We decided we would go look for food and the security officer told us to walk down the street about 5 minutes to Union Square. There were so many choices of all different types of food and of course we walked around to look all the choices. We took our meals back to the Magnolia Gardens to listen to band while we ate and the food was great!
Next time you travel for training or visiting family, check out the area you are visiting and make it a mini-vacation. You will be surprise what you find and it is a great way to explore a new destination.
