Lazy 5 Ranch

We had the pleasure of taking a day trip with our grandson to the Lazy 5 Ranch located in Mooresville, NC.  We decided to take this trip on Labor Day weekend and of course everyone and their grandma (me being one of them) decided to come to the ranch but it was totally worth the wait and visit!

For nearly 30 years, the Lazy 5 Ranch is home to over 750 animals from 6 different continents.   Still run by the Hampton Family, the Lazy 5 Ranch is also known nationally as breeders of top-notch show goats and sheep.

The staff were so friendly and accommodating.  After arriving we realized we did not have enough cash and of course I changed my purse where my checkbook was but one of the staff gave us a dollar and told us to say “Anthony said to go ahead”!  Well, upon our return I sent them a nice thank you card with the money we were short and a tip for their hospitality.  Also thought it would be nice to write a blog about our experience at the Lazy 5 Ranch so everyone can experience this awesome exotic animal ranch.New Paragraph

As we drove into the park, we were greeted with large Ostriches’ and our grandson was able to feed them.  Along came the zebras and the cute pot belly pigs strolling by.  One sign that stood out was “Do Not Feed the Zebras”!   As we went along, we saw water buffaloes walking along side of our car and different type of cows that we could feed.  Did not want to feed the water buffalos or Texas Long horn Cattle for sure but we liked feeding the llamas and alpacas.

What really stood out throughout our drive on the ranch was how so many different exotic animals are just hanging out together; such an amazing event to see! Never have seen an antelope, buffalo or zebra and cattle so close.  It is such a different experience then going to a zoo! New Paragraph

Normally you should allow two hours to drive through the ranch but on holidays you might have to double the time.  The good news is the ranch is open most days so you have plenty of days you can arrange to come when less crowded.   At this time, the playground, snacks area and walking portions for the exotic birds was not opened but we saw some of these birds on our way out of the ranch.  Hang a left turn out of the ranch, head to the Patterson Farm that offers local foods, products and homemade ice-cream.  Being a Sunday, they were closed early so we headed into Salisbury for a nice dinner at the Olive Garden on our way home.New Paragraph

Hope you can come out for an unusual encounter with these exotic animals!
